Children’s Storage Bench – Attractive and Useful!

One often overlooked method to store children’s toys is the children’s storage bench.  This handy piece of furniture can double as both seating and storage.  With the right brand, you can have an attractive way to keep your children’s toys or clothing out of sight!

childrens storage bench The Easy View bench is one I really like.  It has clear drawers which allow your child to see what’s inside.  This make putting away toys and finding them again much easier!

This model is made of wood with a cushioned seat.  You can’t see it in the picture, but the back is a toddler friendly mirror.  I know my baby would love that!

You do have to assemble it, but that isn’t too hard as long as you don’t have a toddler underfoot…

You can see the current sale price of this model here at Amazon.

The Beck Children’s Wooden Storage Bench is another cute bench.  This one is much less expensive, usually priced under $50 at Amazon.  You can also get free shipping by clicking here.

It is a lot smaller than what it looks like.  The actual dimensions measure 11.75″ x 31″ 20.5″.  The bench itself is wooden, while the bins are fabric.  So they are a little less sturdy but still very useful.

Reviews of this children’s storage bench are overall positive.

There are a number of other children’s storage benches available on sites like Amazon.  You can find a full list of them here.

Children’s Storage Bins – Which Ones Should You Use?

childrens storage binsOne easy way to keep toys organized is through children’s storage bins. But which ones do you use? There are a lot of good choices out there.

Bins can be more convenient than a traditional toy box for several reasons. First, you can keep small toys from getting mixed up. With a good labeling system, you can mark which bin your children should put the toys in. For example, legos can go in one, while doll clothes go in another. You can then encourage your children to put their own toys away. Expect them to get mixed up a little, especially with young children.

You can also use children’s storage bins to keep your children accountable for the mess they make. So you can make a rule like, “Put away one bin before you get out another.” This keeps things more organized and less overwhelming when time to clean up arrives.

There are a lot of good choices out there.  The one pictured above is a traditional option that usually costs around $50-60 new.  You can also find them at mom to mom sales for around $25, depending on the condition.  You can also find the bins and shelves in different colors.

Then there are some nontraditional options.  I especially like this bookcase with bins.  You can recreate this look yourself with an girls storage bookcaseinexpensive bookshelf and a collection of collapsible canvas bins.  These  usually cost around $7 each.  There are also hard plastic bins, but these are harder to find in the right size.

There are also cubes and other interesting looking ways of organizing your children’s toys.  You can even use them for a nontraditional clothes storage option – especially under a changing table.  We did this with baskets.  However, the clothes had a tendency to get dumped out by toddlers, so be forewarned!

All in all, children’s storage bins are excellent for small toy storage.  With a little creativity, you can design a storage solution that fits your children’s needs as well as your own decor!

Children’s Storage Beds

childrens storage bedOne of the best ways to save space in the bedroom is by utilizing the space under the bed. Children’s storage beds can provide an attractive and elegant way to store out of season clothing, toys, and extra blankets. When you have more than one child in a bedroom, this can be especially helpful.

Now, you can buy beds with a drawer already built in underneath, or you can seek out different methods to store things under the bed. If your bed does not have a drawer built in, you may need to use bed lifter in order to make the bed high enough for some storage baskets. So the most convenient option, if you have it, is to buy a bed with the drawers built in.

We have three boys in one bedroom, so we’re researching a bunk bed/storage solution. Many of the beds we’ve seen have desks and dressers built into the side. For us, an extra dresser would be nice because there is only so much you can fit into a 12×12 room!

If you are just getting a toddler bed, you can find several models available online. These are not too difficult to put together, and shipping tends to be free. If you can find a deal from Amazon, you’ll end up saving yourself time and money!

If you want to save some space in the bedroom, I would definitely recommend investigating children’s storage beds!

Children’s Storage Boxes

childrens storage boxesChildren’s storage boxes are one of the essential tools to organizing your child. You can use these in a variety of ways.

For example, there are the simple toy boxes that you can use to store toys. These come in all different sizes and colors. You can even get boxes to match your little one’s decor! Or choose one that matches your own, and use it long after they are too old for toys.

You also may be looking for smaller children’s storage boxes to hold arts and crafts supplies. We have a few of these we use – for example, we buy multiple pencil boxes when they are on sale before the school year starts. We then use them to hold different drawing materials, scissors, gluesticks, paper scraps, wire benders, ect. Each box holds its own sort of material. It helps the kids find what they want for their latest project quickly and easily.

Whatever your needs, you can find a wide variety of childrens storage boxes at Amazon. They have a very good selection of different types of toy boxes and other types of storage. Plus, things go on sale frequently, so you’re likely to get a good deal on your next purchase!

Children’s Storage: Finding Solutions for Multiple Children

Children’s storage is essential in any house with children, especially if you have more than one child.  Children start small, with just a few tiny clothes and rattles.  But that collection will expand with time.  Noisy toys, puzzles, games, cars, dolls, and clothes all add up over time.  Without constant management, this toy collection will eventually take over the entire house!

There are several solutions.  The first thing almost any parent needs to do is pare down the toy collection.  Going through the toys can be difficult, especially due to sentimental reasons.  But there are usually some toys that are broken that can go.  If your children are older, you can even consider letting them have their own garage sale.  It makes cutting down the existing toys a little easier.

If there are still too many toys for the space, you may want to think about doing a toy rotation.  This works well in our house.  We split the toys into several bins, and every few weeks we switch which toys are out.  The rest of them are put into storage.  The only problem with this is it takes about an hour to change out the toys.  However, it gives us a chance to sterilize toys if anyone has been sick and get rid of things that have become broken.

Once you have a reasonable number of toys in the main play area, then you can decide on what sort of storage you want to do.  There are toy boxes, baskets, bins, bookshelves, and storage furniture.  What you choose to use will depend on your space and what sort of decorating you want to do.

If the toys are in a main area, like a living room, you may want to put them into a piece of storage furniture, like a storage ottoman.  Baskets can also be an attractive solution if you have the room.  We have furniture that sits off the ground, so low baskets slide easily underneath.  This makes it easy to pick up toys quickly at the end of the day, as the kids can easily reach where they put the toys away at.

In a dedicated playroom or bedroom, you can look at more kid oriented options.  Colorful bins and toy boxes can be fun.  There are even toy boxes that double as play equipment.  We have a toy box in the playroom that looks like a castle, making it perfect for setting up action figures and acting out dragon attacks.

For clothing, you also have a number of options.  What you choose to use will depend on how many kids you have.  Clothing that is in current use can go into the dresser or closet.  With more than one child, you probably want to have some system in place to handle hand me downs.  Also, you may want a system to take care of clothing that is bought ahead of time.
